Here he is in all his glory! I had a great time painting him.

I decided to use acrylic paint with matte medium to make it transparent without sacrificing thickness. If I would have used water do dilute my paint I would have had to use two or three coats to get the color I wanted. With the matte medium I only had to do one coat of paint. Awesome!

The build-up wash sounded like it would take a long time, and after losing so many days it makes sense to find a better solution. Now with the paint I can see all of the intentional "nicks" and indents to also make it look like an aged piece, perhaps found in some ancient Greek temple. I didn't expect the body color to be quite so solid, but the character of the original looks fantastic on the "metal" and for the fiery mane and tail.

The amazing if ominous pony is ready to conquer the world. Where exactly will he be doing that from? I hope's it's where lots of people can walk by and say, "Aww, what a cute evil pony you are!" :)

I think the body color looks so solid because I was basically painting a dark red on top of a rustic red. I tried to make the paint as transparent as possible but it still turned out that way. In person it doesn't look as solid. I'm not complaining though. :)

I'm happy with how the armor came out. I was really excited to see it take that worn out, aged look.

To be honest, I really didn't know how to go about painting the mane and tail. I decided to try to replicate Spitfire's hair because it slightly resembled fire. When I started applying the paint, everything just fell into place.

I'd like to see someone try to call him a cute evil pony. :)

A thousand years from now there will be an altar showing off this piece, it being worshipped as a god. The God of Cute because he's so cute when he's angry.

I understand that it's tough to capture all of the subtle character of a sculpture in just a few pictures. It needs to be experienced in person to fully appreciate it, but from what I can see that would probably blow my mind. :)
